On the 15th May 2018 government announced a call for evidence on the use of rebated gas oil, also known as red diesel for non-road mobile machinery. They are trying to understand how and why it is used and to identify the barriers to switching to cleaner alternatives.
Red diesel for agricultural use, fishing vessels, home heating and static generators is outside the scope of this call for evidence.
Motive power for freight and passenger trains, rail terminals and the use of red diesel in refrigeration units in trucks will be included.
